Fic with Mycroft and Mary and and old army buddy

Lost a fic which I hadn't read properly, just skimmed through and then promptly lost. There was an old army buddy of Watson's and then Watson was being charged with murder and chose a firing squad over a hanging and ended up with a fight on the roof.

Does this mean anything to anyone?

Just to randomly point out that I would choose a fireing squad over hanging, too. No deliberation needed, well except for not being executed at all preferably.
Sadly I don't know the fic, but would love to read it. Sounds interesting.

Just to point out that condemned prisoners in the British system
don't have a "choice" of ways to be executed. In civil crimes
committed by subjects of the Crown, hanging is the only method
of execution sanctioned.

The firing squad is usually reserved for treason or cowardace by
soldiers under fire during war time. Civilians or even retired
soldiers would NOT be executed by firing squad, they would be
hanged.
