Slash books

Hi everyone!
I was looking for actual slash Sherlock Holmes books, not online fic or stories of any kind, no fanzine, but actual books sold in actual book stores. I have to make some gift for some friend, so! I'd love if any of you could suggest me the title of some book s/he may have red. Thanks! :D

The most well known would be My Dearest Holmes by Rohase Piercy.

(ps: you likely won't find it in an ordinary bookshop, but it's often available online, and some book traders might order it for you.)

I ordered it off amazon.com (I think). Or .co.uk.
No problems there.

One that you might be able to go to your local bookstore and pick up?

There are one or two Yaoi manga obviously based on them.

But I wouldn't subject a friend to that.

To put it simply, 'yes'.

It probably has more to do with the fact that Victorian detective fiction translates poorly into the stock romance storylines traditionally seen in manga.

Then again, I've just finished reading a series of western-style Sherlock Holmes comic books that made me want to tear my hair out.

The problem with them (and with the vast bulk of published fanfiction) is that fans are simply not a big enough market to sell to, so the basic elements remain but everything that makes a character a character is stripped away in the hopes of broadening the appeal. For obvious proof, see any adaptation, ever.

This is what happens with the other; the attempt to appeal to two different markets, those who like romance/porn and those who like Sherlock Holmes, but not those who like Sherlock Holmes romance/porn (a much smaller market and therefore not as commercially viable) has resulted in a product that is only suitable in the way a Hollywood rom-com is; good in the background as long as you aren't paying attention.

To add insult to injury, they've usually been done on the cheap with artists who are unknown for very good reason.

Umm. I'd offer names, but I only recognise the covers (complete with deerstalker and Inverness cape in the middle of London, naturally).

Erm, with apologies for the Marketing 101 lecture in there.

tbh, any LGB Manga is very hard to pull off. The only exception to that rule is FAKE, which, as long as you don't look to closely at the plot, is ok.

In answer to the first Question, beg borrow or loot a copy of Piercy's My Dearest Holmes. My own copy has seen better days I must say, but a lovely angsty read. I got mine off Amazon if that helps.

Yayoi Neko did a yaoi/manga adaptation of the Master Blackmailer. There's no porn but BELIEVE ME the Yaoi is obvious. You have to order it though, it's not available in stores. She has an order form on her accounts at DA and Y!Gallery.

Y! http://yaoi.y-gallery.net/user/thundertori/

Of course her account name is Thudertori.
