A friend of mine was rereading flawedamethyst's brilliant "Elephant in the Room" series, and that reminded me of another fic: Sherlock literally brings in a smallish statue of an elephant and starts leaving it in various places around the flat. Like, initially John stumbles over it in the hallway, and one day it shows up in the bath, etc.

In the end, it turns out Sherlock is trying to give John a wee bit of hint, and of course they end up together.

It's actually amazing how many fics out there refer to elephants or the phrase "the elephant in the room" in titles and chapters; Google is of no help to me.

I have a feeling this story is a bit older (probably 2011, possibly even 2010) and may even be by a pretty well-known author.

I would obviously appreciate your help in locating it! Thanks.

Or it could be Granada!verse, I find it hard to tell sometimes. Either way, it's set Post-Reichenbach, and Holmes is all cold and aloof towards Watson, who is still doggedly loyal and in love with him. One night after a case they're all wet and Holmes is injured: wounds bandaged, wet clothes removed, brandy drunk, and then they get to the sexin's.

Cut to the morning, Holmes is just unbelievably assholish about their night together, and calls it "pedestrian" I think, and Watson is suitably crushed, and then it turns out that Holmes had stealth!feels that he was hiding from Watson cuz he thought he didn't deserve the good doctor, when actually he's totally in love with him and heartbroken. He cries. They make up, because Watson's a bona fide saint.

Vague summary is vague. Anyone know what I'm talking about? Thanks in advance :D

EDIT: Found! Story link is down in the comments!
