Secretly Awesome!Watson!

I would like any and all of your recommendations for fics featuring a Secretly Awesome John Watson. I love the stories where everyone knows John is completely ordinary, until there's a sudden emergency and his Awesomeness suddenly shines through. Whether he hides it on purpose, or he doesn't know. I've read the two Sentinel crossovers recently rec'd as well as that fairy AU where John was a Sink. Does anyone know where I could find more like this?

I'm fine with any universe, although I prefer more canon-based and less AU. Also, John/Sherlock is my favorite, but I'll take gen with a side of friendship, too.

Well, Bartimus Crotchety has this great series called "Dr. Watson Police Surgeon". It features Dr. Watson helping out Scotland Yard during the Haitus after Mary's death. Here's the link to his profile. He has a bunch of bamf!Watson.

I'm in love with BAMF Watson, particularly when he's a quiet BAMF Watson. Here are some that I really love.

This is one of my favorites. (You will really love this one.)
The Republic of Heaven (http://blind-author.livejournal.com/4144.html#cutid1). John is certainly quietly extraordinary. It's lovely. It's an AU based on His Dark Materials/The Golden Compass and the BBC-verse. I should point out that I have neither seen nor read those movies or books, but I did not have any trouble following the fic. For all that's it's AU, it's close to the show canon. It's a WIP, but she doesn't end chapters with cliffhangars, so every section feels like it's tied up on it's own.

Ridiculous (http://kate-everson.livejournal.com/10190.html). It's another AU, with a kind of crossover to Brandon Flowers "Crossfire" song. John is still in Afghanistan, and he's a bamf SAS "special situations" type of solider. He keeps having to rescue this "consulting specialist", who keeps getting himself into trouble.

Underestimated (http://www.squidge.org/peja/cgi-bin/viewstory.php?sid=49807). Sebastian Moran severely underestimates John Watson, when he Moriarty takes Sherlock.

Monster (http://moony.livejournal.com/1614661.html). Sherlock decides to fight fire with fire, and turns to crime in an attempt to seduce Moriarty out of hiding. I can't tell you about John's role in this without completely giving it away. But I think you'll like it.
