Hello :)

I am looking for fics focusing on John during his time in the war.

BBC verse only. Slash is fine. Gen is fine. Het is okay as long as not a huge focus in the story.
I really want to get some insight into what it could have been like for him.

Hi, On Afghanistan's plains by Pompey, is a brilliant fic about Watson and the war, the author wanted to keep canon (and history!) as accurate as possible so it's gen, very well done....awesome actually, you can find it here:

Have you read the awesome Two Two One Bravo Baker (http://archiveofourown.org/works/180121/chapters/264839), by abundantlyqueer? It's an awesomely long AU where Sherlock and John meet three months before they do on the show...in Afghanistan ;)

I actually found that one yesterday by looking at random Sherlock Art on Tumblr that someone linked to me, stumbling across a fanfic post mixed in with pictures, and...I found the fic lol. Not read it yet, but it looks good :D

If you don't mind crossovers:

"Catastrophic Mechanical Failure" is a crossover with Ironman written for the prompt "John Watson was wounded in Afghanistan because he was in the funvee with Tony Stark". And while the premise sounds cracky, the story isn't. Two rather different characters meet under extreme circumstances (capture) and have to work together. Much snark, BAMF!John.
