John returning from Afghanistan

I think this was on FFN. Sherlock and John met when they were toddlers and have been inseparable ever since. When John decides he want to become a doctor but refuses to take money from the Holmes'. So he enlists in the army for training. I believe Mycroft help by shortening the time he has to serve in Afghanistan, but it mean he will be gone the whole tour without leave to return sooner. It is John being away that causes Sherlock to resort to drugs. John does not know about the drugs. I don't remember if they are married or not. I think Lestrade may know about them but am not sure. Everyone finds out when John returns injured. Thanks in advance for any help.
