hopefully not an impossibly vague fic description

i'm looking for a fic that describes watson as holmes' "perfect audience" possibly with demonstration of this (ie. watson' particular appreciation of holmes and his methods). i can't remember anything about the plot etc, but i feel it might have been a fic by one of the more prolific authors in this fandom. i'm pretty sure it was holmes/watson, not pre-slash.
